Jerónimo Martins increases score in global gender equality index
- Score of 71.55%, up 6.5 p.p. compared to last year;
- Index includes a select group of 418 companies (7 Portuguese) across 11 sectors and 45 countries.
The list of companies that made the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index has just been released and, for the second year running, Jerónimo Martins is part of the select list of companies that have been included in this global gender equality index, having increased its evaluation comparing to last year.
Susana Correia de Campos, Head of Corporate Employee Relations at the Jerónimo Martins Group, points out that “being included in this index again attests to the consistency with which the Jerónimo Martins Group promotes gender equality. It is something we work on every day at the Group and we are proud to say that 68% of management positions are held by women.”
The Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index’s methodology includes two weighting factors: 30% for “disclosure” and 70% for “data excellence”. For these two dimensions, the Group obtained an overall score of 71.55% (up 6.5 p.p. compared to last year), mainly as a result of its 98.4% for “disclosure” and around 80% for “equal pay and gender pay parity” and “anti-sexual harassment policies”, two of the five dimensions assessed under the “data excellence” component. The index assesses over 70 metrics in total.
The 2022 edition includes a select group of 418 companies (7 of which Portuguese) across 11 sectors and 45 countries.
A continued commitment to gender equality
In 2021, the Jerónimo Martins participated in the first edition of Target Gender Equality, a programme designed for the members of the United Nations Global Compact aimed at accelerating gender equality in companies and promoting women’s empowerment. Under this programme, the Group implemented the Women’s Empowerment Principles Gender Gap Analysis, a tool that helps companies identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, and obtained a level of “Achiever” with a score of 65% (35 p.p. and 31 p.p. higher than the global and European averages, respectively).
Also in 2021, the Group conducted a “Gender Equality Survey” among all its employees, designed based on the guidelines of the Committee for Equality in Labour and Employment (CITE).
